Participatory Integrated Planning (PIP) Approach in under the Inclusive Livestock Development for Smallholders Farmers (“INCLUDE”) funded by SNV (Netherlands).
Inclusive Livestock Development for Smallholders Farmers (“INCLUDE”) is a 5-year project. The project aims to increase smallholder farmer living income and resilient livestock-based livelihoods for smallholder farmers. INCLUDE adopt a farming systems approach integrating livestock and crops with livestock as an intervention entry point. Through a participatory approach (Participatory Integrated Planning, PIP), which is the basis for all interventions, smallholder farmers will strengthen their adaptive management capacity and develop strategies and plans that increase their sustainable land use, productivity, access to markets, and contribute to improved access to nutritious food. This will ensure farmers’ effective engagement and contribution to finding solutions to their challenges and ownership of the interventions. The project focuses on three key outcome areas:
- Sustainable production
- Inclusive livestock markets
- School milk program and milk market
CHAIN-Uganda is implementing activities to kick start the PIP approach in the Buyende district which were initiated based on the PIP approach in new communities. The entry approach was based on the six steps in module one:
- Awareness raising with the sub-county leaders
- Awareness raising with the community representatives
- Introducing the PIP approach and preparing the next steps
- Community Assembly 1: awareness raising and selection of Farmer Innovators
- Development of the first version of the Community Vision.
- Presentation and discussion of the Community Vision and action plan and confirm PIP innovator.
The report summarizes the activities carried out in September and October 2024 in the two sub-counties of Kagulu and Nkondo in Buyende district.
